The Uniqueness of the Holy Quran: It is a Single Unified Version!

May 27, 2011

What I found interesting is that he is making a point which many may not understand— because the Christians to NOT have a unified book which ALL agree upon,, there is no way that they can rewrite from memory if all the bibles were thrown away.  But because there is only ONE version of ARABIC Quran, and thousands have memorized from the first letter to the last, they would be able to rewrite it and have others check and verify its correctness.  This procedure actually still occurs when a new print is made: the raw print is read by scholars to check for typing mistakes, deletions, or additions.  Only once it has been verified can the press go ahead and make the final print out.

Reading Surahtul Kahaf on Fridays

May 20, 2011

From Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri, who said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ancient House (the Ka’bah).”
(Narrated by al-Daarimi, 3407. This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami, 6471)

Suratul Kahaf

April 22, 2011

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, a light will shine for him from beneath his feet to the clouds of the sky, which will shine for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be forgiven (his sins) between the two Fridays.’”

O you who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you avoid justice; and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do. When should a Muslim start fasting six days of Shawwaal ?

You can start fasting six days of Shawwaal from the second day of Shawwaal, because it is haraam to fast on the day of Eid. You can fast the six days at any time during Shawwaal, although the best of good deeds are those which are done soonest.
The standing committee received the following question:

Should fasting the six days be done immediately after Ramadaan, following the day of Eid or is it permissible to do it a few days after Eid in the month of Shawwaal or not?

They replied as follows:

These days do not have to be fasted immediately after Eid al-Fitr; it is permissible to start fasting them one or more days after Eid, and they may be done consecutively or separately during the month of Shawwaal, according to what is easier for a person. There is plenty of room for maneuver in this matter, and this is not obligatory, it is Sunnah.Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daaimah, 10/391

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can a person start fasting six days of Shawwaal when he still has days to make up from Ramadaan ?
If a person fasts six days of Shawwaal after Ramadaan when he has not yet completed the Ramadaan fast because he did not fast ten days of Ramadaan for a legitimate reason will he have the same reward as a person who fasted all of Ramadaan and followed it with six days of Shawwaal, i.e. will he be like a person who fasted for a lifetime? Please explain to us, may Allaah reward you with good.
The precise rewards for the deeds which people do for the sake of Allaah is something which is known only to Allaah. If a person seeks the reward from Allaah and strives to obey Him, his reward will not be lost, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“We shall not make the reward of anyone who does his (righteous) deeds in the most perfect manner to be lost.”[al-Kahf 18:30]. Read the rest of this entry »
Essayist: Before Burning Quran, Know What’s In It
A vandalized sign at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., where Pastor Terry Jones was planning to burn copies of the Quran on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
An outcry from Muslim communities around the world greeted Florida Pastor Terry Jones’ announcement that he would commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by burning copies of the Quran. The outrage was matched only by those who staunchly oppose the building of an Islamic cultural center near ground zero in New York City.
President Obama, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Gen. David Petraeus all urged the pastor to call off the event, citing potential threats to Americans overseas. In a late afternoon press conference, Jones said he had canceled the protest in exchange for a deal to move the proposed Islamic center away from ground zero. But Feisal Abdul Rauf, the imam planning the center, quickly said no such deal had been made.
Here’s a quick test of your knowledge of scripture.  Where does the following passage come from?
“Behold! The angels said: “O Mary! God hath chosen thee and purified thee – chosen thee above the women of all nations.”
Let’s try another, with more modern language:
“Behold, the angels said, “O Mary, God announces good news to you by a Word from God named the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honored in this world and the hereafter.”
The first from the King James Version of the Bible and the second from the Revised Standard?
No on both accounts.
These are passages from the Quran. The first in English translation by Yusuf Ali and the second by Thomas Cleary. As an English-speaking Muslim, I have several versions of the Quran in English.
The Quran, the holy book of Islam, gets quoted for exhortations to fight for the faith. “Those who believe fight in the cause of God, and those who reject faith fight in the cause of Evil.” But it’s also filled with reverent passages about Jesus Christ.  There is a whole chapter named for his mother, Mary, who is mentioned more often in the Quran than she is in the Bible itself.
And this is the book the Rev. Terry Jones threatened to burn at his Dove World Outreach Center in Gainsville, Fla., on Saturday?
Did he know what he would be burning?
The Rev. Jones may reject much of what he believes is so about Islam.  He may reject the notion that another prophet came to humankind after Jesus.  He may resent Islam’s fierce adherence to One God and not a Trinity. He may — and rightly so — despise the acts of terror committed in the name of Islam. But he should know that the book he hopes to burn as a statement of protest and rage holds his Savior in the highest esteem.
“And in the footsteps of the prophets we send Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming the law that had come before him. We sent him the Gospel. Therein was Guidance and Light.”
The Quran tells about miracles performed by Jesus — some unfamiliar to the Bible, like talking when he was a baby and breathing life into a clay bird, but also recognizable miracles, like healing lepers and restoring the dead to life.
The chapter of Mary also tells stories of Abraham, Moses and Noah. Surely these are figures of prominence in the Christianity of the Dove World Outreach Center.
But the crisis around burning the Quran was not one-sided. It may have been instigated in Florida but hostile reactions were predicted in Afghanistan by U.S. Gen. David Petraeus and who knows where else. After all, there is a history of violent reaction by Muslim people to perceived offenses against their faith.  Remember the Danish cartoons?
So there is another group of people who need to know better just what’s in the book at the center of this story.
Muslims themselves.
We are now celebrating the end of the month of Ramadan.  Muslims showed self-discipline by fasting from dawn until dusk for 30 days in a row.  This is a time to put that self-control into action.
In Chapter Five, the Table, we read, “O Believers! Stand up as witnesses for God by righteousness and let not ill will at any induce you not to act uprightly.  Act uprightly … And fear ye God. God is apprised of what ye do.”
“Killing is bad,” the book goes on to say,” but lawlessness is even worse than carnage.”
Just like the Bible, the Quran has its share of passages about punishment and vengeance.  No doubt I’ll be accused of only choosing the soft, sweet lines out of context for the purpose of making a point.
But it’s a point that needs to be made as much as the point that has been made that burning the Quran is NOT a good idea.  That the challenge for Muslims in this trying situation is to behave and perform as cited in the very book they said they were trying to save. IGNORANCE CAUSES FEAR
‘They are scared of Holy Book’s divinity’
JEDDAH: Dialogue and dawa are the deeds that will stand Muslims in good stead, especially at this moment in time when an American pastor’s call for a provocative action against Islam is stoking hatred and fear.
Essam Mudeer, a renowned dawa worker, called the actions of pastor Terry Jones of Gainsville, Florida and Dutch deputy Geert Wilders “plain stupid,” adding, “they act this way only to seek attention.”
Mudeer believes that it is not hatred but fear that is driving people like Jones and Wilders to such “crazy” actions. “Those who want to burn the Holy Qur’an are scared of its divinity and message and know that if it reaches non-believers, they will instantly join the believers. And this is the greatest fear that drives these people.”
Muslims must understand this is the hidden agenda that Muslims world over should understand and see, and use the power of articulate
dialogue and tolerant behavior to turn the tables on these people, Mudeer said. “They are in the business of rekindling the fires of war, but we should be properly equipped to become firefighters and for that we need books not bombs,” Mudeer said during an interview with Arab News. “Our pen should be our bazooka. Hence, I request our brothers and sisters to flood America with copies of the Holy Qur’an and Islamic literatures,” Mudeer added.
The Islamic advocacy group Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has expressed similar sentiments and called on Muslims and others to host “Share the Qur’an” dinners to educate the public. The group announced a campaign to give out 100,000 copies of the Qur’an to local, state and national leaders.
Mudeer said the call by the church to burn the Holy Qur’an is primarily aimed at provoking Muslims around the globe, but the community should not fall into this trap. Instead we should use this opportunity to initiate dialogue with Christians and the West.
But Mudeer, a member of the founding team of Saudi-based Iqra TV, was at pains to admit that the Muslims would miss this opportunity. “Muslims have lost the art of talking and have become predictable. At the same time the enemies of Islam have mastered the art of noise making. And they know which button to push for desired reaction in order to label them as intolerant and extremists.”
Mudeer fears extremists world over may use the images of the Qur’an burning to inflame public opinion and incite violence, and this is what people like Jones want. “We should understand their nefarious intentions and avoid indulging in any act of aggressive protest. However, we can still vent our anger in some peaceful manner,” he added. Read the rest of this entry »
